Pembrokeshire Tourism Awards Finalists 2018

Below you will find our shortlisted finalists for all of this years categories.

Best Breakfast

Sponsored by
St Brides Spa Hotel

Meaning ‘Taste’ in Welsh, Blas offers a menu influenced by the season and locality and champions produce sourced from predominantly Pembrokeshire and Welsh suppliers, as well as foraged ingredients from the surrounding countryside and coast.

Our breakfast menu is creatively designed to reflect the sheer diversity and quality of local produce, to ensure that diners experience a true taste of Wales. Provenance is key with Welsh ingredients such as Laverbread – a traditional seaweed delicacy, Goodwood Honey produced on the banks of the Cleddau in Pembrokeshire and a range of homemade jams handmade in the Brecon Beacons by Miranda’s Preserves  – available.

Virtually from the moment Philip and Pippa Williams bought the St Lawrence in 2013, their ‘breakfast experience’ has been talked about – and in a good way!  With their use of the very best produce – preferably home-grown and/or locally sourced, Philip as Baker/Breakfast Chef and Pippa running Front-of-House, they have received complimentary reviews from Day 1.  The menu is designed with an eye to their own individual foodie idiosyncrasies and preferences – Jack Spratt and his wife come to mind – and with the objective of making sure each guest gets their perfect breakfast.  It certainly seems to be their recipe for success.

Pembrokeshire Wake Park has brought one of only two Wakeboard parks to Wales; wakeboarding is one of the fastest growing water sports in the world. The brand new park is custom built and boasts state of the art technology and equipment, a shop, Café and now for 2018 Wales’ first ever Aqua Park.

We are a family and dog friendly attraction that offers a place to experience new thrills, become hooked on a sport for life, as well as a location for people to meet, enjoy local produce and feel part of a community.

The current competitive advantage for Heatherton is derived from the range and quality of the services, the breadth of customer profiles, the long opening hours throughout the year, the staffing skill base and the flexible pricing structure.

The scope of activities offers customers an unrivalled choice. The quality of the individual activities is higher, as is the range and quality of support services, enabled by the scale of the site. The activities are not ‘shut down’ during the winter period, with qualified staff on site all year. Heatherton is also a dog friendly attraction that has a dog agility course.

The Harriet Davis Trust was founded in 1992 by Kit & John Davis, in memory of their disabled daughter, who died aged 11. They knew the difficulties of finding holiday accommodation for a severely disabled child so they set up Harriet’s House on Tenby harbour, specially equipped for families to have a holiday at a low, subsidised rent.

Twenty-five years on, the trust has four holiday homes in Pembrokeshire, three for wheelchair users and a fourth, adapted for children with learning difficulties and autism. The houses can be used by disabled adults out of school holiday time and grants can be given to families in financial need.

The Qube Group is pleased to have a second business short listed in 2018 for the Pembrokeshire Tourism Awards; The Cove, nominated for the ‘Best Access for All’ Award.

The Cove are well deserved of their nomination for complying with and going above and beyond with their efforts to include multiple forms of access for less-abled persons to their bar and lounge. Appealing to the mass tourism market that other competitors in Tenby cannot always offer. The Cove has also thoughtfully added spoken menus & quiet lunches for those who may find it difficult to dine out in Pembrokeshire.

The Talking Tapestry of Langum may not be Pembrokeshire’s biggest tourist attraction but it’s certainly one of its most inspirational, having started life as part of a project to restore Llangwm’s ailing St Jerome’s church. Drawn by local schoolchildren and stitched by local women, it tells the story of the village’s medieval Flemish founders, and now hangs in a side chapel of the newly-restored church.  It’s open free of charge between Easter and the end of September, and at other times by request;  money for its upkeep comes from the sale of merchandise, group visits and events such as the successful Music at Lunchtime series.
